Shopping Local + Small // Does it Really Matter?

Shopping Local + Small // Does it Really Matter?

Beginning Thoughts

Each year, at this time, small business owners around the world have a similar inner dialogue on repeat. Will our small brand make enough in sales this holiday season to get us through the slow winter months? Will we make it? On a more raw and revealing note, many small business owners are just hoping to make it month to month. So, is it important to choose to shop local and to shop with small shops, artists & makers? I strongly believe it is.

Big Impacts // Shopping Local + Small

There are so many positive impacts to our communities when small businesses thrive. Positive impacts ranging from the financial support an individual or family receives from sales, to the contributions from small businesses via sales tax dollars that greatly contribute to the infrastructure of our communities, and to the cultural diversity created by the many small businesses that make up the heartbeats of our towns and cities that we call home and visit. But, how do these small businesses compete with the vast number of businesses now accessible via the internet? How do these small businesses compete with an ever growing number of celebrity owned businesses? How do these small businesses compete with lower prices on goods, that bigger brands are able to offer? I think it comes down to being more intentional & conscious of how important it is, right now, and to make the decision today to support small.

Small Business Love

So, how can you start supporting more small businesses? I have curated a very tiny list of some small businesses that I‘d love to share. Coincidentally, each business below is woman owned. Small business owners are a community, and we thrive when we support one another. Hoping my first blog post, however short, leads at least one person to choose to support one new small business this holiday season, and beyond.
